Get to know Ms. Tallent

Hi!
I am Tina Tallent.

This page is designed to give you a glimpse of who I am.

After high school, I earned an associates' degree in applied science, specialising in commercial art and advertising design.  I was employed as a graphic designer for 15 years. As a graphic designer, I gained skills in team working. We often had to work together to accomplish common goals and meet deadlines. These are skills that I hope to pass on to my students to enable them to accomplish goals through teamwork as well.

Eventually, I wanted to become part of a field that I was more passionate about. Education is that field for me. I returned to college to earn my undergraduate degree at Appalachian State University. I graduated in December of 2014 with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Middle Grades Education with concentrations in English/Language Arts and Social Studies.

I have worked with young people and their parents for seven years as a Girl Scout leader. Our troop currently has 12 girls in grades 6, 7, and 8th.  While working with these girls, I have gained experience in dealing with emotional issues and children with ADHD. I have organized and carried out lesson plans. I have planned many field trips including overnight trips. I have learned that I care about helping young people reach their full potential. Part of our Girl Scout law is "to make the world a better place." I believe that education is part of what enables all of us to do just that.

My favorite hobbies include photography, reading, historical travel, hiking, and riding my bike on
easy dirt trails. My daughter, Caroline, is eleven years old. I have two cats named, Dharma and Luna who love to snuggle.

I am honored to have this opportunity to help our students reach their full potential! I love teaching and I especially love teaching students in middle grades. Together, we will have many pleasurable learning experiences.
